BloomingOUT: Bloomington Police Department / Father Charlie – 08/23/18

Play

Our guest tonight is Detective Sergeant Dana Cole and Patrol Sergeant David Alley form The Bloomington Police department to talk about relationship with in the LGBTQ community. We also have Father Charlie Dupree the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, who is member of the LGBTQ community he will be part of our discussion tonight. Father Charlie will also be joining us later in the show as well to talk about his own journey with in the church as a gay clergy.

On BloomingOUT tonight we are exploring why protesters across the U.S. over the past two years tried to prevent, disrupt or minimize the presence of police officers at pride — even though the officers impacted are typically members of LGBTQ police groups. Nonetheless, protesters say they’re doing so to take a stand against police brutality and harassment of marginalized groups, namely people of color and the transgender community. Our question to our panelist tonight is how do we as a community begin the process to build bridges between the Police and the LGBTQ community.

The Bloomington Pride board was asked to be apart of this discussion tonight, however they declined stating that they have scheduling conflicts. BloomingOUT requested a written statement but we have not one. Our hope is to have The Bloomington Pride board members on to talk about this important topic.

Featured music comes from the album Be The Cowboy by Mitski.
