City Council Expands Sexual Harassment Protections

In their meeting last night, the Bloomington City Council approved expanding city code to provide sexual harassment protection for contractors, volunteers, and interns. The Bloomington Common Council may heavily amend an ordinance regulating motorized scooter use, proposed by the city’s administration. Transportation Plan to Increase Fairview, N. Maple Traffic

Maple Heights Approved as Historic District

The majority of Bloomington Common Council members voiced their support last night for designating the Maple Heights neighborhood an Historic Conservation District. The Maple Heights Neighborhood Association requested the designation with the Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission, which recommended it to the council. City Council Addressing $10 Mil Parks Project, $30 Mil Parking Garages

The Bloomington City Council will take up two, multi-million dollar bonding initiatives tonight. A ten million dollar bond would fund parks projects. Another $29.5 million bond would build two new parking garages in Bloomington’s downtown. The proposed parks bond would fund more than seven miles of new trails, and 1,400 new trees. City Passes Property Tax Increase for Sidewalks

The City Council voiced support last night for a property tax increase to fund sidewalk repairs. City Controller Jeff Underwood presented a proposal re-establishing a cumulative capital development fund, along with the property tax increase. The fund is primarily supported by property taxes.
