City Removing Asbestos, Mercury From Decommissioned Griffy Plant

The City of Bloomington Utilities department continues to work on removing mercury and asbestos at the decommissioned Griffy Lake treatment plant. Last night, the Utilities Service Board approved a $187,000 amendment to its existing contract with V.E.T. Environmental Engineering. The original contract was to handle the plant’s demolition. City to Demolish Griffy Lake Water Plant

City of Bloomington Utilities plans to demolish its old Griffy Lake water plant. Capital Projects Manager Mike Hicks told the Utilities Service Board last night a recent investigation revealed asbestos at the plant.
