City Removes Overdose Addresses from Web Map

The city of Bloomington is removing addresses of fatal overdoses from their data portal. The move comes after community members objected to a map on the city’s opioid data website – BloomingtonRevealed.com. That map displayed the addresses where fatal overdoses had occurred within city limits.

Fatal Overdoses Decrease in Monroe County, Rise Elsewhere Across State

Rev. Forrest Gilmore said the Shalom Community Center’s organization is seeing a reduction in overdose deaths among clients, this year. The city of Bloomington is proposing a ban on new addictions treatment facilities. The drafted ordinance would place a moratorium on the further development of rehab facilities within city limits. According to a press release from the city, the ordinance was written after meeting with representatives from for-profit and non-profit treatment centers in the Bloomington area.
