Indiana Poet Laureate Adrian Matejka

Play

Newly-named state poet laureate Adrian Matejka says Bloomington is an almost magical, mystical fertile ground for creative writers. A professor in Indiana University’s English Department and a National Book Award finalist for his poetic biography of boxer Jack Johnson, The Big Smoke, Matejka assumed his post as Indiana’s bard ambassador this month. He joins Michael Glab to talk about his plans for archiving the works of Hoosier poets, both well-known and just starting out, as well as how he juggles writing multiple poems simultaneously.

This episode originally aired Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Michael Glab goes one-on-one with Bloomington’s most fascinating people every Thursday at 5:30pm. Tune in for a bonus feature, Big Talk Extra, every Monday on the Daily Local News at 5:00pm for added chat not included in the previous week’s show.
