In this episode, we are joined in the studio by Kevin Mohsenzadeh, an IU Sophomore who is currently running for the position of President of the IU Student Association as part of the Unite IU campaign. Kevin is a member of the Public Relations Committee for the wildly successful IU Dance Marathon and served as an intern to the president of IUSA last year.
In this episode we will be taking a look at the recent Newsweek exposé that details 34 “actively gay” priests and six seminarians in Italy. The story, which was originally reported by the Italian News Outlet; Corriere della Sera, was based off a dossier prepared by Francesco Mangiacapra, a gay male escort who documented explicit messages and photos of his “clients” in the popular messaging app WhatsApp.
Our second topic of discussion is regarding the recent decision by the Washington Sate Legislature to ban Conversion Therapy for minors. Senate Bill 5722, passed in a 33 – 16 vote in the Washington house, and is now awaiting the approval of Washington Democratic Governor, Jay Inslee. The effect of the bill would label conversion therapy performed on minors as “Unprofessional Conduct” but does not ban the practice outright. Licensed health care professionals who continued with the practice on minors could be subject to fines, suspension or even revocation of their professional license.
