<itunes:summary>Special Guest - Gina Gallo

Our special guest, veritable wine-business royalty, is Gina Gallo - of E&J Gallo. Today's theme: HUNGER RELIEF - RIGHT HERE IN INDIANA!!

The Gallos are partnering with Taste Of The NFL this Superbowl weekend in Indy to host Party With A Purpose - a food and wine extravaganza featuring celebrity chefs from every NFL city, past and present NFL players, the newly crowned Miss America, special musical guests, and Food Network Host Ted Allen - all in the name of raising money for Gleaners Food Bank.

Gleaners is a food bank in Indy which has provided over 275 million pounds of food to hungry hoosiers since 1980. They have a special talent for stretching a dollar:

1 out of every 6 Americans (yes, Americans) struggles with hunger. The number of Americans seeking emergency food relief is up 46% since 2005.

A MERE $10 DONATION WILL PROVIDE 40 MEALS FOR HUNGRY HOOSIERS. That is a staggering impact of a very small donation - and 100% of all proceeds will provide relief right here in Indiana. Please go to either Taste Of The NFL or Gleaners right now and donate. Your help is desperately needed.

Please join me in a very special conversation with this Great American Philanthropist: Gina Gallo. Additional topics will include: wine pairing, wine making, VH1 Save The Music, and of course, football!!

<itunes:summary>Special Guest - Gina Gallo

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT EPISODE OF WTJ YOU WILL EVER LISTEN TO!!!! Our special guest, veritable wine-business royalty, is Gina Gallo - of E&J Gallo. Today's theme: HUNGER RELIEF - RIGHT HERE IN INDIANA!!

1 out of every 6 Americans (yes, Americans) struggles with hunger. The number of Americans seeking emergency food relief is up 46% since 2005.

The Gallos are partnering with Taste Of TheNFL this Superbowl weekend in Indy to host Party With A Purpose - a food and wine extravaganza featuring celebrity chefs from every NFL city, past and present NFL players, the newly crowned Miss America, special musical guests, and Food Network Host Ted Allen - all in the name of raising money for Gleaners Food Bank.

Gleaners is a food bank in Indy which has provided over 275 million pounds of food to hungry hoosiers since 1980. They have a special talent for stretching a dollar:

A MERE $10 DONATION WILL PROVIDE 40 MEALS FOR HUNGRY HOOSIERS. That is a staggering impact of a very small donation - and 100% of all proceeds will provide relief right here in Indiana. Please go to either Taste Of The NFL or Gleaners right now and donate. Your help is desperately needed.

Please join me in a very special conversation with this Great American Philanthropist: Gina Gallo. Additional topics will include: wine pairing, VH1 Save The Music, and of course, football!!

What's the Juice? explores the vast world of fine wine, beer, and spirits in a laid back style that appeals to both the novice and connoisseur. Hosted by Brad Dunn, Bloomington's first Certified Sommelier, with co-host Leslie Thomas.</itunes:summary>

What's The Juice? - Episode 50: Joy Merrilees - Winemaker, Part 3 (November 26, 2011)

Special Guest: Winemaker Joy Merrilees, Steele Wines

In an industry where women are severely underrepresented, Steele Wines’ extraordinarily talented assistant winemaker Joy Merrilees brings an energy and excitement to her wines that is helping to make Lake County’s star on the California wine map a little brighter. Lake County, just on the northern border of prestigious Napa Valley, undeservedly remains to this day the red-headed step-child of its southern neighbor.

Initially a student of horticulture and landscape design at Humboldt State University, Joy discovered her passion for wine during an exchange at Lincoln University in New Zealand, where her buddies in the oenology program seemed to be having all the fun. Now, as an eighth year veteran at Steele, she oversees the entire operation, which includes four distinct labels. ‘Steele’ remains the flagship label and includes very traditional varietals like chardonnay and pinot noir. The second labels Shooting Star, Writer’s Block, and Stymie are a mixed bag of traditional and several experimental offerings, including counoise (of Rhone origin), aligote (the ‘poor-man’s Burgundy’), and blau frankisch (Austria).

If you are sick of the same old thing and are dying to try something new, THIS IS YOUR JUICE! I gotta say, there’s nothing I love more than a young, cutting-edge winemaker!
