Mixologist and Cocktail Historian Molly Wellman is a Cincinnati celebrity. She fashions old-tymie cocktails from the 1700's to the 1950's in her converted wig shop - the display cases now hold her favorite spirits. If that weren't enough, Molly does not use a single commercial product, (other than the booze, itself) and instead prefers to create all of her own syrups, sodas, infusions, tinctures and bitters. For those of you wanting to visit the Cincinnati area, look up Japp's Since 1879 - Over the Rhine (just don't order an Apple-tini!!).

World renown chef and TV star Eric Ripert is coming to the IU Auditorium with his buddy Anthony Bourdain on Thursday, February 16! It's called the Good vs. Evil Tour, and spotlights the two epic chefs live on stage for an up-close-and-personal look at these celebrated personalities. They will even be taking questions from the audience!

For those of you dwelling under rocks, check out Tony Bourdain trotting the globe on his raw, edgy and wildly popular, Emmy Award Winning Travel Channel show: No Reservations - now in its eighth season. His first book Kitchen Confidential is one of my favorite reads of all time.

Mr. Ripert is the chef at 3-star Michelin restaurant Le Bernardin in NYC, and also stars in AVEC ERIC - an incredible PBS series on food culture and cooking. Avec Eric also includes two spin-off mini-series. Perfect Pairings is all about dispelling common myths of food and wine pairings, and Get Toasted (my favorite - a completely brilliant concept) features (insert superlative) Mr. Ripert preparing simple, 5-minute meals that anyone can prepare at home in their toaster oven!! Amazing!!

What does molecular gastronomy have to do with techno music? This is an unforgetable conversation. . .

In an industry where women are severely underrepresented, Steele Wines’ extraordinarily talented assistant winemaker Joy Merrilees brings an energy and excitement to her wines that is helping to make Lake County’s star on the California wine map a little brighter. Lake County, just on the northern border of prestigious Napa Valley, undeservedly remains to this day the red-headed step-child of its southern neighbor.

Initially a student of horticulture and landscape design at Humboldt State University, Joy discovered her passion for wine during an exchange at Lincoln University in New Zealand, where her buddies in the oenology program seemed to be having all the fun. Now, as an eighth year veteran at Steele, she oversees the entire operation, which includes four distinct labels. ‘Steele’ remains the flagship label and includes very traditional varietals like chardonnay and pinot noir. The second labels Shooting Star, Writer’s Block, and Stymie are a mixed bag of traditional and several experimental offerings, including counoise (of Rhone origin), aligote (the ‘poor-man’s Burgundy’), and blau frankisch (Austria).
