Waldron Task Force

Play

An eight-member task force convened by Bloomington mayor Mark Kruzan met for the first time today to begin an inquiry into management changes and fee increases at the John Waldron Arts Center. Members include Joni McGary, from a coalition of 21 local performing arts groups that use the facilities at the Waldron, managed by the Bloomington Area Arts Council. The group claims that fees will increase by as much as 186% for some performance groups. Today the “Waldron Task Force” outlined the steps it will take to come up with best practice recommendations for the viability of the Waldron, brainstorming on who to talk to and what documents to request from the arts council. We’ll hear from Joni McGary in a few moments along with city councilwoman Susan Sandberg, A. John Rose, for whom the Rose Firebay is named, and others. Local realtor John West chairs the meeting as we go on-location to City Hall in this WFHB exclusive.
