Last week the Trump administration announced that DACA will be phased out by March 2018. DACA is a presidential memorandum issued by president Obama in 2012 which defers deportation for two years for undocumented, law abiding immigrants who were brought here as children before the age of 16. DACA status is renewable and offers the ability to remain temporarily in the US to work and/or study. DACA does not offer lawful status nor a path to citizenship. DACA was a direct consequence of Congress’ failure to pass the “DREM Act bill’
