The Future of Nuclear Weapons

Play

President Obama is pursuing his call for global elimination of nuclear weapons. The United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution in September on stopping the spread of nuclear weapons and strengthening compliance with international non-proliferation treaties. Last week Indiana University’s Center on American and Global Security and the India Studies Program hosted a panel of experts on “The Future of Nuclear Weapons.” John Mearsheimer is co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago. Stephen Schwartz is editor of Nonproliferation Review. Mearsheimer says nukes are an effective deterrent to global combat but Schwartz says they’re a waste of money. We’ll hear from both after an introduction by Gideon Rose, a member of the National Security Council during the Clinton administration, in this WFHB radio exclusive.
