Tent Ordered Down on 11th Street

Play

Several dozen protesters marched through city streets this morning, eventually making their way to City Hall and Mayor Mark Kruzan’s office. The group was protesting the city’s response to a temporary homeless shelter established last week. The shelter was a large, military-style tent set up on a piece of vacant property on West 11th street. City officials said the shelter violated zoning codes and must be removed, but activists and some of the local homeless population said the tent was the only place for the homeless to sleep, due to a lack of low-barrier shelter this year. WFHB Assistant News Director Joe Crawford was at the protest, and he brings us this report for today’s WFHB feature exclusive.
