Superintendent McCormick Will Not Seek Re-Election

Play

Indiana’s highest ranking education official will not seek re-election.

Superintendent Jennifer McCormick announced she will not run in 2020, today.

McCormick, a Republican, is in her first term as superintendent, after ousting Democratic predecessor Glenda Ritz, in 2016.

McCormick has at times been at odds with Republican leaders when it comes to education policy. That includes her support for increased scrutiny of charter and voucher schools receiving state funding.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed a law last year that will make the Superintendent of Education an appointed position, beginning in 2025.
