Most of us are aware that the 2016 presidential election process was tainted by the proliferation of social media pranksters, vandals, and outright liars. Foreign countries and domestic political entities gamed social media like Facebook and Twitter to create misinformation campaigns. With the 2020 primary season about to begin next week, are we any safer from being manipulated again? Indiana University Professor of Informatics and Computer Science Fil Menczer and his team of researchers have been studying the ways bots and fake accounts have created an environment of doubt and mistrust in the electorate for years. Menczer brings us up to date on the state of social media political discourse as we prepare to vote for president in November.

Host Michael Glab goes one-on-one with Bloomington’s most fascinating people every Thursday at 5:30pm. Tune in for a bonus feature, Big Talk Extra, every Monday on the Daily Local News at 5:00pm for added chat from the previous week’s show.
