This Friday is the official beginning of Indiana University’s Little 500 bicycle race in Bloomington.

Bloomington Police Department Captain Steve Kellams said all officers are on-duty for ‘America’s Greatest College Weekend.’ Around 25,000 visitors and students attend the Little 500 bicycle race and other festivities around the IU Bloomington campus every year. Kellams said the swell in visitors means every public safety worker is on deck this weekend, and BPD is putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the weekend.

The Little 500 Women’s Race begins on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Bill Armstrong Stadium, on IU Bloomington’s Campus. The Men’s race begins at 2 p.m. this Saturday. The Little 500 began in 1951 and the Cutters team currently hold the most wins with 12 first-place finishes.
