Order of the Arrow: Racism and Homophobia in Boy Scouts

Play

Thousands of Boy Scouts are in Bloomington this week for the elite Order of the Arrow conference, under fire from local Native Americans because of racial stereotyping and the exclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. Scout Executive of the Hoosier Trails Council in Bloomington Randy Brown on Friday defended the Order of the Arrow, saying that rather than making a mockery of Native American traditions, it is a culture the Boy Scouts revere and take seriously as something for the scouts to learn about. Nathan Steininger and Laura Reagan disagree. We hear from Nathan and Laura AND an audience member who has been attending conference events as we go on-location to Rachael’s Cafe in this WFHB exclusive.
