At a joint press conference this morning, the YMCA of Monroe County and Cook Group Incorporated announced the funding of a new YMCA to be built on Bloomington’s Northwest side. Cook Medical has devoted $5 million in matching funds to the local Y so as to better serve the residents of Western Monroe County. The 79-acre property was purchased by Cook Medical in December and will be leased to the Y for $1/year. While we know the location of the new Y will be just west of Curry Pike, the opening date will be determined by how quickly the matching funds can be raised by the community. In today’s feature we take you on-location to the South-side Bloomington YMCA where you will hear from Miles Kanne, the YMCA Campaign Co-chair; Roberta Kelzer, executive director of the Monroe County YMCA; and Kem Hawkins, the president of Cook Group, Incoporated, in this WFHB radio exclusive.
