New Parking Commission to Create Policy

Play

Last week, the Bloomington City Council passed an ordinance creating a parking commission to develop a comprehensive parking policy for the city. The commission will have nine members. They include two merchants and one member of a nonprofit — each housed within the downtown meter zone — one city council member, and a representative from the Department of Planning and Transportation, and four other Bloomington residents.

Assistant News Director, Sarah Vaughan, met recently with Steve Volan, the city council member who proposed the Commission. Volan is also a volunteer at WFHB. Vaughan spoke with Volan about the need for parking policy, the science of parking, and how parking meter proceeds could benefit public transit.
