Local ISTEP Scores: Cameron Rains, Jan Bergeson

ISTEP stands for Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus, an annual standardized test designed by the Indiana Department of Education. ISTEP scores directly influence state funding of local schools and students cannot graduate from an Indiana high school without passing the final grade ten ISTEP exam. Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year the test was moved from fall to spring, and the Spring 2009 numbers for Monroe County are in. So how did local schools do? Cameron Rains is the new director of elementary education for Monroe County Community Schools, and Jan Bergeson is the new director of secondary education. Rains and Bergeson presented a report at this week’s school board meeting to break down the numbers on how local students fared in the latest round of state standardized testing and what THEY plan to do to bring those scores up in this WFHB radio exclusive.
