Local Agencies Fight Child Homelessness in South Central Indiana

Play

According to studies performed by the Continuum of Care, there are more than 400 people experiencing homelessness in our region on any given night. The region includes Monroe, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Morgan and Owen counties. More than 27% of the homeless individuals are children. IU student reporter, Victoria Hansel, looked into the issue of childhood homelessness for today’s WFHB community report.

Each Monday during June and July, the Daily Local News is bringing you reports produced through a partnership between WFHB and Indiana University’s J460 Community Journalism class taught by Professor Mike Conway. During the spring semester, students volunteered at WFHB and produced final projects about a variety of under-reported subjects, from wealth inequality to racial justice. This story is the fifth in our series.
