John Gaus: Witness to Nagasaki

Play

On August 6th and 9th, 1945, two atomic bombs vaporized 210,000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today, nuclear weapons make the threat of mass destruction frighteningly real – the world’s arsenal is capable of repeating the destruction at Hiroshima 400,000 times over. Last night, the Bloomington Peace Action Coalition and the Just Peace Task Force of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington hosted a showing of ìWhite Light, Black Rainî, a documentary about the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Following the film we heard from an American who witnessed the bombing of Nagasaki, Reverend John Gaus, who speaks of a horror he can never forget, in this WFHB exclusive hosted by local activist David Keppel, who will speak after Gaus on the need for a global ban on nuclear weapons.
