Interchange – Randy Paul: Agent of Change

Play

Randy Paul fights for people you may never think about.  A community organizer, labor activist, and current trustee of the Monroe County Public Library, Paul joins host Chad Carrothers in the studio to talk about the challenges facing organized labor, as well as the handicapped and other people sometimes regarded as being on the fringe of society.  In the first segment Randy talks about the imminent fiscal crisis looming on the horizon for the library and wonders if anyone is listening when he sounds the alarm.  In segment two we recall the amazing story of how he became the agent of change for workers at the Bloomington Access and Rural Transit bus services, galvanizing the employees to unionize despite threats and intimidation from management.  In our final segment, Paul discusses the problems facing handicapped citizens trying to exercise their right to vote, and other obstacles to accessibility.  Also in this program: a few comments from co-host William Morris, whom we introduce as the new producer of Interchange.
