Representatives from nine local organizations gather to review local food production and the “Growing a Healthy Community” project developed three years ago. The United States Department of Agriculture awarded a grant in 2006 to help expand the delivery of healthy, locally grown food to children and seniors through partnerships with Monroe County nonprofit organizations, working together to develop a local food growing system. The plan also included the construction of a community kitchen run by Middle Way House, the agency which has led the project since its inception. Charlotte Zietlow from Middle Way House outlines the progress made, followed by Maggie Sullivan of the Local Growers Guild in this WFHB exclusive.
