Rhiannon Giddens will be in Bloomington on Monday, October 12th, to perform at The Buskirk Chumley Theater. Giddens uses her voice and platform to showcase the hidden histories of Black String Music, in particular the banjo, which in her words is at the heart of American Music. Giddens spoke to Interchange Host Doug Storm about the way she seeks to interpret the past in order to bring lost history into the present in instructive but emotionally powerful ways. Storm first asks Giddens first about the mission of her group, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, which she co-founded in 2005.
The full conversation, including several of Giddens’s songs, is here: Arts Interchange – Rhiannon Giddens (37:48).
