Decarcerate Monroe County: Youth Services Bureau

Play

The Youth Services Bureau is a county shelter and counseling program that houses troubled teens either brought in by their parents or placed there by a juvenile court judge. Monroe County Commissioners want to move YSB into the county court system. Decarcerate Monroe County is an organization formed to advocate for justice solutions that work outside of the court system. DMC organizers feel that county government did not solicit public input on this proposal, and they worry about YSB’s status as a Project Safe Place shelter. On Saturday Decarcerate Monroe County held a public forum on the implications of this restructuring of the local juvenile justice system, featuring local juvenile court judge Steve Galvin, county commissioner Mark Stoops, and others in this WFHB radio exclusive.
