Twenty protesters gathered in front of the South Walnut Street Sunoco gas station to protest the Dakota Access oil pipeline; The Monroe County Sheriff’s department is planning to open a substation on the south side of town; Today is the 16th Halloween in a row that Monroe County has required registered sex offenders to attend an event during trick-or-treat hours; The Grassroots Conservatives group met last week in the Monroe County Public Library to discuss the alleged dangers of vaccinations and the CDC, and to give updates on their campaign to stop the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Bloomington.

Republican, Nelson Shaffer, and Democrat, Julie Thomas, are competing to represent District 2 on the Monroe County Board of Commissioners. District 2 includes most of Bloomington’s north side as well as some areas north of town. Shaffer and Thomas, who is the incumbent, spoke with WFHB News Director Joe Crawford about the race. In this next clip, Shaffer and Thomas answer a question about plans for a materials recovery facility.

The Indiana Recovery Alliance is a volunteer organization that works to address opoid addiction and abuse in the community by addressing these issues with education, advocacy, needle exchange programs, and outreach services. This week, founder and director, Chris Abert, talks about the services of the organization and ways to assist the Indiana Recovery Alliance with their mission of advocacy.
