FEATURE
The mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando has again brought anti-Muslim sentiment to the fore in mainstream and social media, as well as from major politicians like Donald Trump. The shooter in Orlando was a practicing Muslim and reportedly told 911 dispatchers that he was carrying out the attack on behalf of the leader of the Islamic State. This incident is only the most recent incident that some in American politics and media have seized on to justify discrimination against Muslims in the U.S. In today’s WFHB community report, we hear from IU student Wendy Wang, who reported on the Islamic Center of Bloomington as the Center struggled to reach out to the local community and confront anti-Muslim sentiment. This story is the first in a series of reports put together by students at the IU Media School, who spent the spring semester reporting for WFHB.

That story is the first in a series of reports from students in a J460 class at Indiana University. We will air the students’ reports each Monday for the next five weeks on the Daily Local News.
