A recent report from structural engineers is prompting Bloomington officials to consider rebuilding the Fourth Street garage. Attorney General Curtis Hill is warning Hoosiers to beware of scams in which companies send consumers unsolicited credit cards, often touting high credit limits. The Indiana Department of Transportation is warning of delays and closures of roads in Brown, Johnson, Morgan and Monroe counties next week. Indiana University students have begun to return to Bloomington. The Public Safety Local Income Tax Committee approved the 2019 budget for the 911 Emergency Central Dispatch on Tuesday.
FEATURE: Big Box retailers aren’t paying their fair share of taxes. Monroe County Tax Assessor Judy Sharp says local officials are getting tied up at state courts when large corporations appeal the assessed tax value on their properties. Sharp says that can cost the county millions of dollars, if the county loses the appeal. In today’s Feature, Assessor Judith Sharp takes our listeners through the tax assessment process, and explains how corporations are repeatedly taking advantage of a broken tax system.
