The student group Coal Free IU had a meeting with Duke Energy this morning, about a possible collaboration between Indiana University and Duke
Energy to fulfill both parties’ energy sustainability goals; Monroe County Clerk Linda Robbins said votes should be counted by no later than 8 pm in the primary election May 6th. Robbins made the statement at a County Election Board meeting April 23rd; The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will extend its operating hours on Monday, May 5th and Tuesday, May 6th for the primary election; According to the March 2014 Indiana Employment Report, a report by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the unemployment rate in Indiana dropped from seven-point-nine percent in March 2013 to five-point-nine percent in March 2014.

In recent years, elections in Monroe County have been afflicted by a variety of technical difficulties. And some of those issues were due to simple human error – specifically errors by poll workers. Although the County Election Board stresses poll worker training, there is often not enough time to train workers who sign up at the last minute. Like in previous years, the Clerk’s Office is scrambling this week to find enough workers to staff all its voting sites for the May 6th primary. As of Friday afternoon, the County still needed forty-four workers. For today’s WFHB feature exclusive, Assistant News Director Joe Crawford spoke with Clerk Linda Robbins about the poll worker shortage and how it could affect the election process.

Melanie Miller and Dot Owen of IU Health Hospice talk about the importance and rewards of hospice and the IU Health program through out the years.
