City to Hold Public Forum on Water Rate Increase

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission  will hold a public hearing on the City of Bloomington’s proposed water rate increase at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow night at the Tri-North Middle School Auditorium. That’s at 1000 West 15th Street in Bloomington. Citizens will be able to speak directly to the Commission regarding the proposed rate increase. The increase would bring average residential water rates from $22.09 per month to $26.93. Customers living outside Bloomington would pay $28.27, up from $23.19. The city is also seeking approval to issue up to $4.6 million in long-term debt.  The city says it wants to increase rates because of increases in operating and maintenance costs, as well as a need to replace aging mains, proposed water treatment plant improvements, and additional proposed capital improvements.
