City Council Votes to Demolish, Rebuild Fourth St. Parking Garage

Play

The Bloomington Common Council approved the demolition and replacement of the downtown Fourth Street parking garage in a marathon five-hour meeting last night. Area residents formed a line that extended out the Council Chambers door in order to voice their opinions both for and against the rebuild during a public comment period that lasted for two hours.

Council members Dave Rollo (President, District 4), Chris Sturbaum (District 1), Susan Sandberg (At-Large), Jim Sims (At-Large), and Dorothy Granger (District 2) formed the majority approving the bond that would pay for demolishing and rebuilding the garage. Isabel Piedmont-Smith (District 5), Steve Volan (District 6), and Andy Ruff (At-Large) voted against. Allison Chopra (District 3) was absent.
