Bloomington City Council Discusses Gun Regulations

Play

The Bloomington City Council has approved a resolution urging state lawmakers to give them back the right to regulate guns. Since 2011, the state of Indiana has prohibited local governments, such as the city of Bloomington, from regulating the use of firearms. In a meeting last week, members of the city council denounced that prohibition, as well as the state and federal lawmakers who have relaxed gun regulations and eliminated local control. The Council’s resolution also called for private sellers to conduct
universal background checks. Up next, we hear comments from Council members, who spoke during a meeting last week. We hear first from Council member Dorothy Granger, who is followed by Chris Sturbaum, Isabel Piedmont-Smith, Steve Volan, Tim Mayer and Susan Sandberg.
