Adria Nassim and her constant companion Lu — her service dog — might be as familiar to many Bloomington residents as Mayor Hamilton or IU basketball coach Tom Crean. Nassim is this town’s go-to expert on the autism spectrum, something she knows about intimately. She was a premature baby and early on was found to have the classic social interaction, learning, and spatial recognition difficulties that define the disorder. In college, she dedicated herself to learning everything she could about autism. Today, she helps parents and children understand what autism is all about. She gives talks to businesses and organizations on how to embrace autistic workers and customers. Her column on living with autism appears every Tuesday in the Herald Times. She joins Michael Glab this week on Big Talk.
