Authorities Release Statement on Weekend Ambulance Crash

Play

A Bloomington woman was killed in a crash on Highway 37 on Saturday, and a Monroe County accident investigation team has placed the fault on the driver of the ambulance that hit her. That’s according to a statement released today by the Sheriff’s Department. The ambulance, driven by 35-year-old Joshua Davis, was headed north on 37 and approaching the intersection with Victor Pike. The ambulance was transporting a critically ill patient to Bloomington Hospital and the lights and sirens were active. At Victor Pike, 61-year-old Mary Pietch began to cross 37 when her light turned green. As she proceeded through the intersection, her PT Cruiser was struck by the ambulance, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation concluded that Davis did not use proper caution in approaching the intersection. The case has been referred to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, but no charges or citations have been filed against Davis at this time. A blood draw conducted at the scene of the crash showed Davis was not impaired.
