“Anything Can Happen”: How A Local Woman Lost Her Home

Play

Bloomington resident Dianna Bennett has been living on the streets, as she puts it, for more than a year and a half. Bennett is a former adult daycare provider and businessperson who moved to Bloomington five years ago. She is one of what some estimate are more than a hundred people who are suffering with the loss of the city’s low-barrier summer shelter, which was run for three summers by the Genesis Church. The church decided not to open it again this year. Bennett talked last week with WFHB Assistant News Director Joe Crawford about how she lost her home and why she believes the city needs a low-barrier shelter. Bennett is 64 years old. She has recently been sleeping in an empty area behind a few local businesses, and she said a lack of rest is complicating a medical condition. Bennett spoke with Crawford on the second floor of the Shalom Center, and we bring you that interview for today’s WFHB feature exclusive.
