Affordable Housing and Emergency Shelters: Joel Rekas

Play

Last month the Bloomington Community and Family Resources Commission hosted a public forum on affordable housing and shelters for the homeless. Commission members say they will consider the public input offered at the forum in searching for innovative ideas for programming and public policy to increase affordable housing options for more Bloomington citizens. On yesterday’s program we heard from Joel Reekas, director of Shalom Center, a local daytime facility for the homeless, with a historical perspective on homelessness and housing trends. Today we get personal with members of the public sharing emotional and sometimes shocking stories about real people struggling with poverty and homelessness in the second of our two-part series from “There’s No Place Like Home: Affordable Housing and Emergency Shelters”.
