Activate! – Kit Sommers: SouthernCare Hospice

Play

It may have been how it reminded her of spending time with her grandmother. Or it may have been her desire to have the opportunity to connect with an individual directly. Or, as she reflects now, it may have been precisely because she found herself feeling uncomfortable with the idea of death, that Kit Sommers sought out more information about becoming a volunteer for Southern Care Hospice. Kit is a pre-med student in her last year at IU and not shy about confronting her own fears about the final stage of life as an individual and as a future medical practitioner. She now has a regular visiting schedule with her assigned client and enjoys all of the little things they experience together. Her time as a Hospice volunteer has made her even more aware of the importance of the “little things” in life that bring happiness and calm, like a hello and a smile. Read more about Kit and listen to her story of service beginning Monday, May 6. Airing at 7:55 a.m. and 5:50 p.m. on 91.3 and 98.1FM WFHB Community Radio or online at WFHB.org/category/news/activate_/.
