Daisy Days Plant Sale, Hinkle-Garton Farmstead, 2920 E. Tenth Street, Bloomington, IN

Plants are grown from seed, harvested onsite, or sourced from Spence Restoration Nursery, since 1998 Indiana’s premier native plant supplier. The plants will include those suitable for rain gardens, butterfly gardens and as primary pollinator food sources. Miscellaneous native trees and shrubs may also be available. Experts are on-hand during the sale to answer questions and guide selections. The proceeds from the sale will benefit ongoing gardening efforts at the site.

Maple syrup, cream, and candy and volunteer-produced jam and jelly will also be available for purchase.
Tours of the main house will also be available from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday. The Farmstead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned and maintained by Bloomington Restorations, Inc. It is free and open to the public. For more information call BRI at (812) 336-0909.

Spencer Pride: Sexual Assault and Healthy Relationships

The Spencer Pride commUnity center is located at 17 E. Franklin Street in the Spencer Courthouse Historic District in downtown Spencer, Indiana.    With the opening of the center in September of 2016, Spencer, Indiana became the smallest community in the United States with an LGBTQ+ center.   Our center is the main headquarters for Spencer Pride activities, including our monthly volunteer & board of director meetings.  It is also the home of Iris, the Spencer Pride youth group.

We offer a variety of services at the center, including our Gathering Place & meeting room, which is available free to local, LGBTQ+ affirming, not-for-profit organizations (or other organizations with a not-for-profit purposes).  The Gathering Place includes public access workstations.  The entire commUnity center offers free Wi-Fi.  Our non-gendered public restrooms include a variety of complimentary hygiene & contraceptive products, in addition to baby changing stations.  Health & wellness screenings are offered monthly at the commUnity center.

Speaker Series: Cristina Ibarra and Alex Rivera (zoom) – The Media School at IU, Bloomington, IN

Filmmakers Cristina Ibarra and Alex Rivera, directors of “The Infiltrators,” will give a free lecture.

Ibarra is a Sundance award-winning filmmaker with a 20-year storytelling practice rooted in her border-crossing homeland along the Texas-Mexico border, and Rivera is a filmmaker who has been telling new, urgent and visually adventurous Latino stories for more than 20 years.

“The Infiltrators” is a docu-thriller about undocumented activists who go undercover inside a detention center to help set the occupants free. It’s currently being distributed by Oscilloscope. It won the Audience and the Innovator Award in the NEXT section at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019, among other notable festival awards.

The film is available to view before the event. The password “Infiltrators” and an email address will unlock one free viewing between April 2 and 16.

Since 1971, the IU Soul Revue is famous for dynamic performances of R&B, soul, funk, and contemporary Black popular music delivered by its commanding vocalists, powerful horn line, and tight rhythm section.

Students in the IU Soul Revue learn from the best in the business—from Bootsy Collins to Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds—and perform at venues around the country. Alumni of the Soul Revue are award-winning recording artists, world-class musicians, accomplished producers and directors, and much more.
