WFHB FireHouse Broadcasting

After nearly a year of planning and fundraising, a group of more than two dozen volunteers are preparing for the launch of the Brown County Hour, an hour-long radio program to celebrate and share the culture of Brown County, Indiana and provide a dedicated and open forum for people to explore this unique community.

WFHB's board of directors has elected a new slate of officers.

At their first meeting of the fiscal year, the nine members of the Bloomington Community Radio board of directors elected Marc Tschida as board president. He succeeds outgoing president Mark Need, a professor with Indiana University's Maurer School of Law. Need had opted not to pursue a second term.

Because of the 4th of July holiday, WFHB’s monthly volunteer orientation session has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 10th, at 11 a.m.

WFHB staff typically hold a session on the first Saturday of every month to welcome folks who want to become involved in community radio. Some 200 volunteers give of their time every month to provide a wide range of news and music to Bloomington, Nashville, Bedford, Ellettsville, and other communities in south-central Indiana.

II. REVIEW/APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM MARCH AND APRIL

WFHB has scheduled its summer “Firehouse Follies” live variety show for Sunday, July 18. The show gets underway at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the John Waldron Arts Center.

Committee met at 5 Pm at Radio Station. Present: Pam Raider, Will Murphy, Shaun Mc Dermott, Suzette Weakley, and Emily Jackson.

Minutes approved as posted on line. Will to send to Spot. Calendar: Pam brought small desk calendar – had priced dry erasers. Shaun offers to donate one to station for posting of events in hallway.

As we entered events in calendar Will mentioned that the News Dept. proposed having Jim Hightower speak around Labor Day as a fund raiser - requires follow-up.

WFHB presents the 3rd Annual July 4th Acoustic Roots festival - behind the barn at The Story Inn in Story, Indiana, on Sunday July 4, 2010, from 1pm until 9pm. The festival is a benefit for WFHB, Community Radio for South-Central Indiana.

This year's headliner is WFHB’s most played artist of 2009, roots music sensation Eilen Jewell.

WFHB and the Bloomington Storytelling Project are teaming up this Saturday evening for a wild night of storytelling. It's the fourth installment of their presentation of true-to-life storytelling. Real live folks--your friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers--will gather at the Bishop (123 South Walnut, Bloomington) to share actual stories from their lives. The tellin' gets underway at 7 p.m. SHARP, and there's absolutely no admission fee. WFHB will be recording this presentation, as we have the previous events. Our very own "Hondo" will serve as master of ceremonies.
