Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration

Mayor John Hamilton invites the community to attend the 2023 City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. The celebration begins with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7. This event is free and no ticket is required.

The 7 p.m. event will include remarks by Deputy Mayor Mary Catherine Carmichael, members of the MLK Commission, and others. The theme is “Keep Knocking” featuring keynote speaker Representative Park Cannon. Musical and dance performers will include the Indiana University African American Choral Ensemble, directed by Dr. Raymond Wise, ​ the Jacobs School of Music Ballet Department students and faculty, and Fairview Elementary School. Volunteers who participated in A Day ON! Not A Day Off service projects will be recognized, and the winner of the Commission’s Legacy Award will be announced.  The reception at 6 p.m. will feature light refreshments. Both the formal program and reception are free and open to the public.
